Hospice Rustenburg is proud and honored to be celebrating the Golden Jubilee of Sr Julia Cecilia Mndebele.
A celebration tea was held at Hospice Rustenburg on 26 April 2011 with staff and friends.
On 7th May 2011 many of her colleagues were able to share in the moving Golden Jubilee Service held in honor of Sr C and Sr Mary John Mlangeni at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Tlhabane.
Sr C, as she is affectionately known, joined Hospice Rustenburg in 2003. Sr C, along with the late Sr. Comfort Sechele, established the ‘Outreach’ programme. In 2004 there were 4 Community Care Workers under their wing and were, between them providing care to over 60 patients with extremely limited resources. That number has now swelled to over 750 patients!
Sr C is also responsible for an ever increasing number of staff. Even with this dramatic increase in numbers and responsibility, Sr C has never compromised her commitment to patient care – and we believe we speak for all her patients when we say that they believe they have been ‘touched by an Angel’ when she has cared for them.
One of the most admirable qualities in any person is the ability to laugh at themselves – ‘laugh and the world laughs with you’ – and Sr C definitely bears this trait.
As was said of Sr. C at her Golden Jubilee tea held at Hospice Rustenburg, “Whether you call her ‘Sister’ as in Nun, or Sister as in nurse, friend, and colleague – if you have been in contact with Sr C – you can consider yourself truly privileged and blessed to know such a person as her!”
Sr Julia Cecilia Mndebele made her vows in 1961 and has been in service for 50 years. During this time Sr C also accompanied the Priests to the outstations, teaching catechism to adults and children.
Sr C also obtained her diploma in general nursing and midwifery and later in public health nursing. After joining Hospice Rustenburg, Sr C obtained her qualification in Palliative Care nursing. These valuable qualifications she puts to use in the various communities in and around Rustenburg.
Previous to her joining Hospice Rustenburg, Sr C was promoted to Matron of Clinics in 1987, in the Department of Health, where she was instrumental in motivating communities to build their own clinics to minimize travelling long distances for help / care. There were 25 clinics in operation when Sr C retired in 1997! From 2001 to date she has answered the call of the pandemic of the HIV/AIDS.
One of Sr C.’s responsibilities in the church is to assist the catechetical team of the Diocese of Rustenburg.
Hospice Rustenburg is truly fortunate to have Sr C on staff as the Patient Care Manager and as an accredited Trainer in Home Based Care.
Sr C we, at Hospice Rustenburg congratulate you on your Golden Jubilee. We pray God’s blessing on you, and may God, in His kindness and mercy, guard, guide and grant you good health and strength for the mission entrusted to you.
