During the first week of May 2011, Hospices around the country were celebrating HOSPICE WEEK.
Various activities and displays were held by HOSPICE RUSTENBURG in and around Rustenburg and the Bojonala District.
In Wonderkop, a walk through the village by the staff and the community was held. An informative talk, on the work of Hospice, was given by Williams Besong at the Wonderkop Clinic. A fun soccer game was held between Love Life Staff and Lonmin Peer Educators to challenge the Hospice staff from Wonderkop and Segwaelane.
A visit was made to the Boitekong Clinic as well as a local nursery school where staff met with the local community informing them of the services offered by Hospice Rustenburg.
At the two Hospice Secondhand Shops there were also displays. Staff were available to answer questions and/or to inform members of the public of services rendered.
Informational posters and brochures were placed in all these areas, creating an awareness of the work done by Hospice Rustenburg.
A radio interview was held with Hospice Rustenburg and Metro FM during Hospice Week – another way in which to highlight the activities of Hospice Rustenburg within the community.
A display of posters and photos were also placed at the Waterfall Mall. The shoppers were given an opportunity to write the names of their loved ones and/or a message on a card which was then displayed on a tree at the stand. Staff and volunteers were available to answer any questions.
Each year Hospice Rustenburg continues to advance its mission of providing free of charge, home-based palliative care to terminally ill people and their families in the Greater Rustenburg and the Bojanala District communities. Through our programs we provide home based palliative care, nutritional support, bereavement/support groups and orphan and vulnerable children care, and have improved the quality of life for many.
Hospice Rustenburg would like to thank the various communities for the interest shown during Hospice Week. It is through the ongoing interest and support of the community that we are able to continue supporting our vision of providing excellent palliative care to all.
